A 14-member Orissa squad, comprising nine boys and six girls bagged seven medals in the 23rd National Inter-Zonal Junior Athletics Championship, which was held at Tantia Tope Stadium in Bhopal (MP) from September 2 to 4, 2011.
Dutee Chand was the most successful Orissa athlete, winning two gold by her own and helping the state secure a bronze in 1000m medley relay. In the individual capacity, she clinched a golden double by winning both the 100 and 200m sprint events in the girls-16 category.
Rajeswari Bhoi and Jambeswar Panda grabbed a silver medal each, while two individual bronze medals were claimed by Anand Kumar Majhi and Sekunta Kullu. Rajeswari Bhoi, Subhadra Das and Sekunta Kullu were the other three members of the relay squad that won the other bronze medal for the state.
ORISSA MEDAL WINNERS:
GOLD: Dutee Chand (2), girls-16 100m sprint (12.62 sec) and 200m sprint (25.12 sec).
SILVER: Rajeswari Bhoi girls-16 100m hurdles (16.62 sec), Jambeswara Panda boys-14 shot put (13.50 mtr).
BRONZE: Anand Kumar Majhi boys-18 110m hurdles (14.71 sec), Sekunta Kullu girls-16 log jump (5.04 mtr), Orissa team (Rajeswari Bhoi, Sekunta Kullu, Subhadra Das and Dutee Chand) in girls-16 1000m medley relay (2:23.96 sec).
